What a CrossFit foundations course actually is

Foundations is how we bring beginners into CrossFit here at CrossFit Tunbridge Wells. Rather than dropping you straight into a busy class, you get three sessions in a small group, coached from the very first minute, learning the movements at a pace that suits someone who has never done this before.

By the end of the week you will know how a class runs, you will have the basics under your belt, and the room will not be full of strangers any more.

Complete beginners welcome

Who our beginners’ course is for

Foundations is for people starting from scratch, in and around Tunbridge Wells.

Maybe you have not trained in years. Maybe you have only ever trained on your own at a regular gym and never quite knew what you were doing with half the equipment. Maybe you have seen CrossFit online, liked the look of it, and assumed it was for someone else.

This is the way in. You do not need any experience, any kit, or any level of fitness to begin. You just need to want to start.

Everything you need to begin with confidence

What happens across the week

Three sessions across one week, on a Tuesday, a Thursday and a Saturday, with the same small group each time.

Your coach is in a group chat with you the whole way through, so any question that comes up between sessions gets a straight answer.

SESSION ONE — START WITH THE BASICS

All bodyweight, no equipment, just the basic movements. You leave thinking, “I can actually do this.”

SESSION TWO — MEET THE BARBELL

Your first go on a barbell, and a proper look at how a normal class is put together, so nothing catches you out later.

SESSION THREE — YOUR FIRST FULL CLASS

A full class, a real workout, and you are ready to join the timetable.

Start where you are

You do not need to be fit to start CrossFit

Nobody here started fit. Fitness is the thing you build at CrossFit, not the thing you need to arrive with.

Every movement has an easier version, and your coach picks the right one for you on the day. Old knee, dodgy shoulder, a back that plays up now and then? Tell your coach at the start of session one and they will work around it. You are coached through every rep of every session, so you are never left to work it out on your own.

No awkward first day

What happens after the course

When the week finishes, you move into the normal timetable on your first month of membership, already knowing the faces, the format and the movements. No cliff edge, no starting from scratch, no awkward first day, because you have already had it.

We are just off North Farm Road in Tunbridge Wells, with free parking right outside, so getting here is one less thing to think about.

Common questions

Everything you might be wondering before you start

Is CrossFit suitable for beginners?

Yes, and Foundations exists to prove it. You start in a small group with a coach beside you, learning the basics at your own pace before you ever set foot in a busy class.

Do I need to be fit to start CrossFit?

No. You build the fitness here; it is not the price of getting through the door.

I have never done CrossFit or touched a barbell. Is that a problem?

Not at all. That is exactly who the course is for. You start with the basics, with a coach next to you.

What if I have an injury or a niggle?

Tell your coach at the start. Everything can be scaled, and our coaches regularly work around ongoing injuries and conditions.

I have tried gyms before and never stuck at it.

Most gyms hand you a key card and leave you to it. Here you are coached every session, you are part of a group that notices when you are not there, and there is a set time to turn up. That is usually the difference between starting and stopping.
